Green chemicals
The green chemicals we make are bioacetone, biobutanol and bioethanol which directly displace chemicals made from gas and oil (Acetone, Butanol and Ethanol). Decarbonisation is not an option for the chemical industry, which is based on the use of carbon. Without carbon, the industry cannot exist. Our strategy is defossilisation.

The bio-refining of green chemicals is dependent upon innovative green technologies that are both affordable and optimise the use of nature’s resources. That’s why we have dedicated time and effort to re-establishing, the industry proven (ABE) process to transform locally sourced, low-value byproducts, residues and waste from industries like food and drink production and agriculture into high-value, green chemicals on a global scale.
Biorefinery
Build and operations development
Our flagship, state-of-the-art commercial processing plant in Grangemouth is Scotland’s first biorefinery. It processes local byproducts, residues and waste to produce high value green chemicals – bioacetone, biobutanol and bioethanol – to displace existing fossil-based chemicals.
